San Diego residents reported seeing strange lights hovering in the night sky over the ocean on Aug. 29, 10News reported.

Photos submitted by witnesses show numerous yellow objects floating off to the west, and according to one woman, Dani Grady, the sighting lasted for around 10 minutes, as they faded in and hovered in mostly linear formations, but also Z-formations, before disappearing.

Around 8:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., 10News got calls from throughout the county, from Blossom Valley, Del Mar, La Jolla, El Cajon, and Chula Vista, with reports of the glowing objects.

Officials from Naval Air Station North Island in Colorado were contacted and explained that these lights were actually flares used during a military training exercise.

Grady says she heard what sounded like helicopters over the ocean approximately 20 minutes later, after the lights had faded, and spotted a small red light in the darkness where they were.

A similar incident occurred last December. San Diego Locals panicked upon seeing what was later determined to be the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch from Vandenburg Air Force Base to the north.
